The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) is a Jamaican statutory body established in 1975 under the provisions of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act. The Commission is mandated to regulate and control betting, gaming, and lottery activities across the island, with a mission to uphold the highest standards of probity and integrity within the industry. In doing so, the BGLC seeks to engender public confidence in gaming activities, facilitate the growth of the sector, and safeguard Government revenue.
For the 2026/27 financial year, the BGLC will remain focused on enhancing the regulatory, monitoring, and control framework governing betting, gaming, and lottery operations. Key initiatives include implementing an Anti-Money Laundering Framework to strengthen oversight of the locally manufactured gaming machines sub-sector; developing a policy and monitoring framework for online gaming, guided by evidence-based research; and launching an island-wide responsible gaming awareness campaign.
The BGLC projects a net deficit of $119.44 million for 2026/27, compared to a surplus of $734.90 million in the prior financial year.
