Auditor General's Findings

The Auditor General’s Report for Financial Year 2018/19 [Section 3.2.135] reported that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF) overpaid two former employees a total of $212,196.20 due to inadequate cut-off procedures at the time of their departure.

Recommendation

Management should ensure that urgent steps are taken to recover the overpayments and strengthen its controls over the preparation and payment of salaries and the payment of rental expense to prevent a recurrence.

JAMP Update

The Ministry’s response, dated June 18, 2020 noted that none of the sums overpaid had as yet been recovered, but both persons had been written to requesting recovery of the funds.

An email dated January 5, 2021 indicated that the sums had still not yet been recovered.
