Angela Brown-Burke MP
Political Career:
As of October 30, 2017, she has served as the elected representative of the South West St Andrew constituency that was vacated by the former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mrs. Portia Simpson-Miller. Dr. Angela Brown-Burke currently serves as Deputy Leader of Opposition Business in the Parliament, as well as Shadow Minister for Education and Training.
Brown-Burke started her political career as a Corporate Area Councillor of the Kingston and Saint Andrew Corporation and then served as Mayor of Kingston and St Andrew (2012-2016). She was elected a vice-president of the People’s National Party in 2006. She moved from local to national politics in January 2012 with her appointment as Deputy President of the Senate of Jamaica. MP Brown-Burke currently serves as a member of the Human Resources and Social Development Committee of Parliament.
Civic Activities: Co-founded Angela’s Care Kitchen, which provides meals for senior citizens. She also participated in the formation of the Rockfort Development Council.
Education: A holder of two masters degrees, she completed a Doctor of Education (Ed. D.) in adult education at the National-Louis University in Chicago in 2015.
