Spectrum Management Authority

The Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Jamaica, incorporated in February 2000 and operational since April 2001 pursuant to the Telecommunications Act, 2000. As Jamaica’s national regulator for the radio frequency spectrum, the SMA is the advisory body to the Minister responsible for telecommunications and operates within the legislative framework of the Telecommunications Act and the Radio and Telegraph Control Act, 1973. The SMA works in close collaboration with the Office of Utilities Regulation, the Broadcasting Commission, the Fair Trading Commission, and the National Environment and Planning Agency, and fulfills Jamaica’s international commitments to the World Trade Organization and the International Telecommunications Union.
