Jamaica Library Service
The Jamaica Library Service (JLS) was established in 1948 and operates as an agency of the Ministry of Education, providing a library service free to the public and to schools island-wide. The organisation is managed at two levels through a central Jamaica Library Board and local Parish Library Committees. The JLS delivers services through an administrative headquarters in Kingston and a network of 111 public libraries, 285 mobile library stops, and 898 school libraries across the thirteen parishes, arranged within six regional structures. The Service provides information, educational, and recreational programmes, including free access to computers and the internet, e-books, databases, outreach initiatives, and school library support across Jamaica.
